When TG < 400 mg/dl, LDL-C was indirectly calculated from the respondent-specific concentrations (mg/dl) of total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides using the Friedewald equation (LDL-C = TC - HDL-C - [TG/5]). When TG >= 400 mg/dl, LDL-C was directly measured.
