S8Q11C DETAIL JOB CLASSIFICATION-W3
Variable Description
See list of 1998 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes at the bottom of Wave III, Section 8 codebook. Downloaded at https://www.cpc.unc.edu/projects/addhealth/documentation/restricteduse/datasets.
Due to a programming error, the fourth level of some occupations are missing. This occurred when the third occupational level only had one job category. The program correctly assigned the third level, not making the respondent select this occupation when there was not a choice to be made and then erroneously skipped the fourth level, assuming there was no choice to be made there also. For occupations that did not have a fourth level choice, the default job category was assigned during cleaning but this type of cleaning could not be done when two or more choices were present for the fourth level.
